Dreamworks Animation: The Exhibition
Hey guys !
I had a day off from work and headed down to Dreamworks Animation: The Exhibition !
It just opened on 13 June 2015 and I dropped by on the 14 June 2015, Sunday.
You can check out more details about the exhibition here.

There are 4 parts to this exhibition:
1. Character
2. Story
3. World
4. Drawing Room
Character
Dreamworks show you the process of creating a character. They show how the different characters have developed from a sketch that could be totally different to the finalized version.
Story
This second part shows us how the different movie plots developed. How the characters personality comes to life with the different antagonists and plot twists.
This man above is named Doug Cooper, Visual Effects Supervisor at DreamWorks Animation.
He brought us around on a tour and told us many insightful things about the movies and how the character Shrek was changed 3/4 of the way through the movie. His lipsyncing was all changed and brought us the Shrek we know now.
Just to bring this up to you guys, there are different activities that the Studio has brought to allow us to indulge in their work and skills.
There are tours that are going on and special interactive activities to attend to at the dates below:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
^Conrad Vernon pitches the Gingerbread Man sequence using the story board and his imagination of how the story will go.^
Fun fact: He is also the actual voice actor of Gingy.
Interactive tablets for everyone. It allows you to manipulate the character's facial expressions of different dreamworks movie characters !
World
In 'World', you can see how the animators puts together the bits and pieces of the background, color, texture and the overalls of the entire film; frame by frame.
^Above is an interactive touchscreen that allows you to manipulate the lighting of a short clip. This shows you how the lighting designer helps to enhance the colors and stay true to its origin but still maintain the mood of the clip^
----------------------
Below is an interactive sessions why you can make your own flipbook !
All you have to do is draw and tear them out !
-------------------------------
Another activity fun for the whole family is making a Thaumatrope !
Where you have 2 different pictures on on either side of a paper. When you switch sides really quickly, it seems like they are 1 image.
---------------------------
There is also a section suitable for Music composers and sound designers to enjoy.
Drawing Room
The Drawing Room has about 5-6 Wacom Drawing Tablets to allow everyone to create their own animation by drawing them out, frame by frame. There is a short tutorial for everyone to refer to and it is a really fun activity to watch your drawing come to life.
There are other attractive things to look at like 'Dragon Flight' where toothless will bring you on a journey on his back, Ocean Simulators and more !
Please visit the exhibition as it was a gorgeous with vivid colors and beautiful ideas to inspire you.
There is also a mini shop at the end of the route where they sell t-shirts, key chains, drawing replicas of puss or spirit and books where fellow artists can purchase them to use for reference and inspiration.
I myself have bought one.
**************UPDATE 27 JUNE 2015************************
I found out that bookdepository sells the art of dreamworks animation and it sells at only SGD$55 with free shipping.

I pretty much got scammed for SGD$50 but what's done is done, and I still love the book.
